PROPOSAL FOR DANCING TO BE RECOGNIZED AS A SPORT

by: josavere

Formalizing the proposal for dance to be recognized as a sport, especially in its modern and competitive forms, requires a structured process. Here are the steps to follow:

1. Research and Foundation

  • Defining dance as a sport : Gathering evidence of how dance meets sporting criteria, such as physical exertion, competition, clear rules and structured training.
  • Success stories : Present countries or organizations where dancing is already considered a sport.
  • Academic and scientific support : Include studies on the physical, psychological and social benefits of dancing.

2. Creation of an Organization or Committee

  • Form a working group with dancers, coaches, judges and sports experts.
  • Seek support from dance federations and sports associations.
  • Establish regulations and competition categories.

3. National Recognition

  • Submit the proposal to the sports entities of each country, such as the ministries of sport or national Olympic committees.
  • Demonstrate the existence of organized competitions and their impact on the community.

4. Integration into International Federations

  • Contact organizations such as the  World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) , which already promotes dance as a sport.
  • Request recognition from global sports federations.

5. Road to the Olympic Games

  • Achieve inclusion in international events such as the Pan American Games or the World Games.
  • Comply with the requirements of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), such as the practice of dance in several countries and the existence of organized federations.

If you are interested in promoting this initiative, we can further refine each stage depending on the country or specific discipline you wish to include. Do you want to focus on a particular type of dance?
